Senate Bill 508 - Prohibiting Immigration Enforcement in Sensitive Locations SB 508 would prohibit law enforcement from conducting immigration enforcement actions in “sensitive locations” unless they have a court order or there is an immediate threat to public safety. Sensitive locations include: schools and universities, hospitals, places of worship, funerals and weddings, courthouses, organizations assisting vulnerable populations such as children, pregnant women, crime victims, and individuals with disabilities. The bill defines immigration enforcement actions as arrests, interviews, searches, or surveillance conducted for the purpose of determining immigration status. This bill is intended to protect access to essential services, reduce fear among immigrant communities, and prevent the disruption of critical locations.

Senate Bill 509 - Restrictions on Sharing Personal Information for Immigration Enforcement SB 509 would prohibit state and local government agencies from sharing personal information with any entity seeking to use the information for federal immigration enforcement, unless that entity provides a valid warrant. • Agencies must collect the requestor’s name, contact information, and a sworn statement about the purpose of the request. • If the information is to be used for immigration enforcement, a court-issued warrant is required. • Agencies must annually report how many such requests they received, granted, or denied. • Agencies that discover misuse of data must deny future requests from that individual or entity unless a warrant is provided. This bill is designed to protect privacy and prevent Michigan’s government data from being used for civil immigration enforcement without judicial oversight.

Senate Bill 510 - Law Enforcement Uniforms & Mask Restrictions SB 510 would require law enforcement officers operating in Michigan to wear an appropriate uniform displaying their name or badge number when interacting with the public. Officers would be prohibited from wearing masks or disguises, except in limited circumstances such as preventing airborne disease transmission, using protective gear, or working undercover. Violations would be a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 90 days in jail or a $500 fine. This bill aims to strengthen accountability and transparency during police/public interactions.

Together, SB 508, SB 509, and SB 510 seek to enhance law enforcement transparency, protect privacy and civil rights, prevent disruptive immigration enforcement in high-risk or sensitive settings, ensure judicial oversight before government data can be used for federal immigration actions, and strengthen community trust in law enforcement and public institutions.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I'm a constituent from [ZIP CODE]. I’m calling to urge [SENATOR] to support Senate Bills 508, 509, and 510.

These bills work together to improve safety, trust, and transparency in our communities. SB 510 ensures officers are clearly identifiable, which protects both the public and law enforcement. SB 509 prevents personal information from being shared for immigration enforcement without a warrant, which protects privacy and prevents misuse of government data. And SB 508 stops immigration enforcement from taking place in sensitive locations—like schools, hospitals, and places of worship—so people can access essential services without fear.

This package is about transparency, accountability, and protecting vulnerable residents, while still respecting public safety.

I strongly urge you to support SB 508, 509, and 510. Thank you.
