Tell MI Reps: No More Petition Scammers!
- Details

Michigan Senate Bills 529-531 would modify state laws regarding petition circulation, by preventing “bad actors” from spreading misinformation and engaging in fraudulent practices. This has been a significant issue in prior election cycles.
These proposed changes will enhance transparency, eliminate misinformation, and improve the integrity of the process through clear guidelines.
SB 529 will require that petition circulators be paid an hourly wage, instead of a per-signature or per-sheet basis.
SB 530 will require circulators to read the petition summary to potential signers, or show them where the summary is located and give them a chance to read it.
SB 531 clarifies that if an elector signs a petition more than once, only the first valid signature will be counted.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP]. I’m calling to urge [REP NAME] to support Senate Bills 529-531, that is Senate bill 529, 530, and 531. Petition scammers are being paid, right now, to come into our state and lie to us. These bills would protect us from that and I want you to pass them. Thank you.
